What is smart lighting?
Smart lighting is an advanced system for managing street and public area lighting that uses intelligent technology to automatically adjust light intensity according to real-time conditions. This saves energy while maintaining safe and standard-compliant lighting. It is a key milestone on the way to a smart city, with the capability to integrate additional technologies in the future.
The Design Challenge
Tondo approached us to design and plan a smart lighting product with a clear goal: to create a functional product that also has a unique appearance. The challenge was clear — how to innovate a product that looks like a "cup"? This is where design talent came into play, transforming a simple object into a distinctive and characterful element.
Design Signature
The design we developed transformed the product into an identifiable symbol — no longer just a generic lighting fixture, but an item with character and presence. Its unique shape allows the product to be recognized as a Tondo piece even from a distance, like a design signature that leaves an impression in the urban environment. This way, we succeeded in turning a functional object into a visual icon.
Engineering and Reliability
The mechanical design was also completed in our studio, with a strong emphasis on exceptional durability. The product is sealed against water and dust and is made from reinforced plastic that withstands extreme weather conditions. The combination of meticulous aesthetics and precise engineering makes this product an integral part of the urban future.
